Here I Am…

January 30, 2010 – 10:29 pm |

At week two and obviously I have not gotten the routine down. I am scattered brain, racing around, and worried about everything but not doing anything about it. Typical. I’m in that slow and “eeehhhh, I don’t want to do anything stage.” Christmas break just ended, come on! It takes more than a week to have the students jump back into gear! Eh, even work is a drag.

I am a teacher right now at a Montessori school. The hardest thing for me to teach would be reading. Why? It all begins with how I pronounce my ‘A’s. Yes, one vowel can throw everything off. Phonics makes you sound out each letter individually and then you blend it together. Easy? Yyyyeeeaaahhhh, right. I come from Minnesota where we elongate our ‘A’s and ‘O’s. Give it up for the Swedes! I try to teach a 3 year old how to say the word ‘BAG’. I get the B and the G sounds right. Never have I sounded out the A right. I say the A like HAG. All the people from Colorado say it something totally different. Make sense?

All I know, is that it is a hassle to get myself to sound out A’s. When I say bag, flag, and dragon none of my children get it. So, I’ve given up on sounding out those words and let them struggle through it. Luckily, they work on those letters with other teachers too, multiple times a day.

So, where am I standing right now? Well my life is as confusing as this blog’s layout right now. I jump around, my emotions are jack-in-the-box, and my husband just looks at me like a half-crazed lunatic.

Behind on my studies, check. Late on getting books, check. Lost on taxes, check. Making my husband wonder about me, check check. Being a typical college student and learning things the hard way = priceless.

Bottom line: At least I don’t have to go into class and make everyone else wonder if I’m a half-crazed lunatic at times. Thank God for online classes, EEHHHH?
