DONE!

Monday, May 17th, 2010 |

Are you absolutely in love with the new freedom you have just recently obtained? Ahhhhh, a sigh of relief is the best thing after the finals are done and locked away into the teachers’ vaults.  I have three weeks left of freedom till the next semester starts. Luckily, I am a Senior taking Freshman classes! Woo! This past weekend I got to celebrate my 21st birthday. While I am not a huge fan of drinking (because I would rather study and go to work…) I did have some fun with parents, husband, and some good friends trying out some new drinks. We got to celebrate my birthday and the end of finals for the group! Here are those promised pictures:

The Tavern

The Tavern

Do I look like I get more and more exhausted as the day goes on? Sure do! We headed to Dennys in the morning for a free grand slam breakfast for my birthday with the parents. Then we headed to Coors for free beer. In the middle somewhere we had some wine. Then we finally ended the day going to The Tavern with my coworkers to celebrate. By that time that the day was done, I was one tired woman. Overall, it was nice to unwind and have a lot of fun!

So what’s next on my to-do list? I get to go to Minnesota this summer. Then comes a grand wine tour of Colorado and also thrown into the mix is some rafting and hot springs, with hiking and rock climbing. Fun right? I think so. All of this is accomplished while taking classes and going to work. Impressive, I know. Life is only accomplished for me by taking online courses. I’m not too sure how else to do it. My online experience has been fun and exciting. It has not been without homework, but that’s what school is all about. It has been about self-discipline and a good sense of goal orientation to accomplish every course with the best possible grade.  I look forward to balancing my extremely busy schedule this summer with online courses. Nobody really wants to take courses in the summer, but they also want to finish school earlier. I find that these courses are the compromise to that problem. I get to finish earlier than most people in my class, about a year earlier, and I get to spend my summer the way I want to.

So that’s about it folks! Tis my post of the week. I had a great birthday. My finals went well aaannnnddd…..

Here comes SUMMER!!! :)

It’s like I opened up my closet on Saturday morning and almost died of fright because a ghost came after me. O.K. A little far fetched… However, the anxiety set in and a long cleaning period plus frantic gathering of materials. What am I talking about?!?! Graduation of course. Did you know that you need to talk to your adviser a semester early to prep for graduation?? HA! I didn’t… Luckily, I don’t graduate in May. I graduate in December.

Well, this weekend was a few days of search and destroy everything that may contain things that needed to be thrown away. My tiny apartment, needless to say, is now destroyed. I’m slowly putting everything back in place. I came across some old papers that my UCD adviser gave to me, and that’s when I went into panic mode! Anyway!!! IMG_3367

So you are wondering what all the pictures are doing on this post right? It’s a cancer survivor’s worse nightmare, that’s the best one to have! What do I mean? Sugar!!! Awful for you, yet yummy in a tummy! My husband and I, on spare time, went to Hammond’s Candy Factory. The one and only Hammond’s. Have you ever seen the Christmas ribbon candy? They make it! So, we went in and saw a very short tour, got free candy, and went to take a lot on their oops! sale. The big blob of stuff you see me taking a bite out of??? Is marshmallow and caramel.  Don’t worry, we haven’t eaten it all… yet.

Alright! This is it for this blog. I’ll be at campus tomorrow…so I’ll possibly take along the camera. I haven’t set foot on the campus for about year. :/ It’s definitely something new to me, but I know how to get to the office at least. I hope you guys are doing good and thinking more and more about online classes. Don’t be afraid to leave a comment asking a question or two about them. Thanks to all of the people who follow the blog! Cheers!!

Dilemmas

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 |

So everything is going pretty well. I can never complain about the first week with online classes. Mainly, we just do introductions. While I’m excited to be doing English Comp once again (been awhile), I’m not too sure about some of my core requirements to complete for the degree of Sociology. For example: Contemporary Sociological Theory. While it is a mouthful and sounds interesting, I am just a tiny bit hesitant to how this class is going to go. (However, I don’t think anything can quite be as confusing as attempting to do a math class online…if you are as terrible as I am at doing math.) It seems to me that this semester I will be writing papers practically all the time, while working full-time.

Speaking of work…Yesterday I woke up and I decided that I don’t want to be working with youngsters anymore. I want older kids, the ones that interact more and you can teach them lessons in the core classes. The more I teach the more passionate I become about becoming a teacher! This is a dilemma you see! I am almost a senior at UCD and I can’t just change my major. My major is Sociology and my minor is Education, I would like to become a high school counselor some day. However, now I’m thinking that being a teacher before hand wouldn’t be such a bad idea. So, what shall it be? Masters in Education? Masters in Sociology?

In other news today, my fiancee and I are going to go explore Denver on the weekend. I am actually quite excited about this. I know practically nothing of the area. We also may hike Mnt. Yale on tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted on how that went.
