DONE!

Monday, May 17th, 2010 |

Are you absolutely in love with the new freedom you have just recently obtained? Ahhhhh, a sigh of relief is the best thing after the finals are done and locked away into the teachers’ vaults.  I have three weeks left of freedom till the next semester starts. Luckily, I am a Senior taking Freshman classes! Woo! This past weekend I got to celebrate my 21st birthday. While I am not a huge fan of drinking (because I would rather study and go to work…) I did have some fun with parents, husband, and some good friends trying out some new drinks. We got to celebrate my birthday and the end of finals for the group! Here are those promised pictures:

The Tavern

The Tavern

Do I look like I get more and more exhausted as the day goes on? Sure do! We headed to Dennys in the morning for a free grand slam breakfast for my birthday with the parents. Then we headed to Coors for free beer. In the middle somewhere we had some wine. Then we finally ended the day going to The Tavern with my coworkers to celebrate. By that time that the day was done, I was one tired woman. Overall, it was nice to unwind and have a lot of fun!

So what’s next on my to-do list? I get to go to Minnesota this summer. Then comes a grand wine tour of Colorado and also thrown into the mix is some rafting and hot springs, with hiking and rock climbing. Fun right? I think so. All of this is accomplished while taking classes and going to work. Impressive, I know. Life is only accomplished for me by taking online courses. I’m not too sure how else to do it. My online experience has been fun and exciting. It has not been without homework, but that’s what school is all about. It has been about self-discipline and a good sense of goal orientation to accomplish every course with the best possible grade.  I look forward to balancing my extremely busy schedule this summer with online courses. Nobody really wants to take courses in the summer, but they also want to finish school earlier. I find that these courses are the compromise to that problem. I get to finish earlier than most people in my class, about a year earlier, and I get to spend my summer the way I want to.

So that’s about it folks! Tis my post of the week. I had a great birthday. My finals went well aaannnnddd…..

Here comes SUMMER!!! :)

When Online Comes in Handy

Saturday, August 29th, 2009 |

This week was slightly terrible. It dragged on and multiple problems reared their ugly heads. Oh well. Today I woke up and felt sick, in fact, most of this week I have been dragging my feet. The beauty of it all- I don’t have to go into campus. You know, when you feel sick it always gets worse when you have to go in to class. It was the only way I could keep up with school while battling cancer.

Off of that topic, I’ve been getting emails about the Swine Flu and how to prevent other illnesses. Haha. I get to stay all nice and wrapped up in my comfy blankets at home while doing classes. No need to go into school to expose myself to millions of germs. Then again, when I’m sick, I don’t go to school and expose the rest of you.

Another plus, I don’t have to go to campus and fight tooth and nail for a parking spot! Man! I drove into the parking lot the other day to pick up a book. Let’s just say that I almost burst into tears as I drove off….there was no empty parking space to speak of. Needless to say, I got the book and calmed down after awhile.

With the wedding coming up, I have time to work out. That’s a huge plus. After you go through 10-11 months of pure stress, chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries, and hardships….what do you think your body does? It crashes from trauma. It doesn’t know that everything can go back to normal right away.It takes months there afterward to find a balance. So what happens? It grabs onto any nutrients, fat, and anything else it can get. It kind of stores up on those things because it feels like the trauma will continue or come back. Exercise is the key to fighting depression and an unbalance of hormones that are bouncing around like pin balls. (plus you need to drink lots of water)

People often think that they won’t meet any new friends while taking online classes. That’s a myth. In my biology class we may start meeting to focus on the labs and help each other out on them by discussing, studying together, and bouncing ideas off of one another. Other classes, you have online discussions constantly going. (which gives you a lot or work to keep up on.)

So, there are some benefits and some additional thoughts. (there are more. However, I’m going back to bed.) I woke up this morning and thanked God that I didn’t have to go to campus in order to complete some classes for this week. I was too sick.

Dilemmas

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 |

So everything is going pretty well. I can never complain about the first week with online classes. Mainly, we just do introductions. While I’m excited to be doing English Comp once again (been awhile), I’m not too sure about some of my core requirements to complete for the degree of Sociology. For example: Contemporary Sociological Theory. While it is a mouthful and sounds interesting, I am just a tiny bit hesitant to how this class is going to go. (However, I don’t think anything can quite be as confusing as attempting to do a math class online…if you are as terrible as I am at doing math.) It seems to me that this semester I will be writing papers practically all the time, while working full-time.

Speaking of work…Yesterday I woke up and I decided that I don’t want to be working with youngsters anymore. I want older kids, the ones that interact more and you can teach them lessons in the core classes. The more I teach the more passionate I become about becoming a teacher! This is a dilemma you see! I am almost a senior at UCD and I can’t just change my major. My major is Sociology and my minor is Education, I would like to become a high school counselor some day. However, now I’m thinking that being a teacher before hand wouldn’t be such a bad idea. So, what shall it be? Masters in Education? Masters in Sociology?

In other news today, my fiancee and I are going to go explore Denver on the weekend. I am actually quite excited about this. I know practically nothing of the area. We also may hike Mnt. Yale on tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted on how that went.
